Steve Henderson

Steve Henderson has been drawing since an early age, encouraged by one of his three uncles who were professional artists.  He first picked up a brush and tried acrylics only a few years ago.  Now a petroleum engineering professor at Texas Tech, painting was initially a means of escape from the constant stress of working in the oilfield services industry.

While acrylics continue to be his favorite media, Steve has recently begun experimenting with oils and continues working with graphite and colored pencil.  His subjects range from wildlife and landscapes to portraiture.

Being entirely self-taught, Steve is mostly inspired by the challenge of learning something new.  Undertaking each work with no clear end in mind, he usually follows the advice of his uncle:  “Boy, just paint.”
